The children of St Therese parish are prepared for the reception of the sacraments through a whole-parish program, co-ordinated by the Religious Education Co-ordinator and supported by staff members. The programs occur over four or five weeks prior to the reception of the sacrament, in the school hall in the evenings.
Children come from all schools in the parish and they need to be registered as they arrive on the first evening. Dates are communicated in the parish bulletin and the school newsletter. The children receive instruction in small groups led by parishioners and staff from the school.
Our Parish Priest, Fr David O'Brien, provides input and an opportunity for questions for the parents. Each sacrament is preceded by a reflection day at St Therese School, which is attended by all of the parish children and which is organised by the Religious Education Co-ordinator and supported by staff.
The parishioners support the reception of the sacraments through volunteering to be group leaders, preparing the church with flowers and banners and often providing a choir for the occasion.
